Admiral Death Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCB DBDBEEEB FBFBGGGB HBHBIIIB

Boys are ye calling a toast to nightA
Hear what the sea wind saithB
Fill for a bumper strong and brightA
And here's to Admiral DeathB
He's sailed in a hundred builds o' boatC
He's fought in a thousand kinds o' coatC
He's the senior flag of all that floatC
And his name's Admiral DeathB
-
Which of you looks for a service freeD
Hear what the sea wind saithB
The rules o' the service are but threeD
When ye sail with Admiral DeathB
Steady your hand in time o' squallsE
Stand to the last by him that fallsE
And answer clear to the voice that callsE
Ay Ay Admiral DeathB
-
How will ye know him among the restF
Hear what the sea wind saithB
By the glint o' the stars that cover his breastF
Ye may find Admiral DeathB
By the forehead grim with an ancient scarG
By the voice that rolls like thunder farG
By the tenderest eyes of all that areG
Ye may know Admiral DeathB
-
Where are the lads that sailed beforeH
Hear what the sea wind saithB
Their bones are white by many a shoreH
They sleep with Admiral DeathB
Oh but they loved him young and oldI
For he left the laggard and took the boldI
And the fight was fought and the story's toldI
And they sleep with Admiral DeathB
