To My Little Niece Sally Livingston Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCDEFGGHICDJJKKLLGK

To my little niece Sally Livingston on the death of a little serenading wren she admiredA
-
-
Hasty pilgrim stop thy paceB
Turn a moment to this placeB
Read what pity hath erectedC
To a songster she respectedD
Little minstrel all is o'erE
Never will thy chirpings moreF
Soothe the heavy heart of careG
Or dispel the darkness thereG
I have known thee e'er the sunH
Hath on yonder mountain shoneI
E'er the sky lark hath ascendedC
Or the thrush her throat distendedD
Cheerful trill thy little dittyJ
As the singer blithe and prettyJ
Labour stood half bent to hearK
Study lent a list'ning earK
Dissipation stop'd a whileL
Grief was even seen to smileL
Ambition but the gushing tearG
O'erwhelms the stone and stops me hereK
