The Procession Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEE FFGHII JJKKEELLMM NOMMAAEE

The legislators pass alongA
A solemn self important throngA
Just raised from the common massB
They feel themselves another classB
But let them in the sunshine playC
For every dog must have his dayC
-
There moves the law's close wedged bandD
The scourge and terror of the landD
Pandora's box replete with illsE
Not half so baleful as their quillsE
-
The sons of Galen ghastly crewF
Next pass in horrible reviewF
Arm'd with each instrument of deathG
To sap the citadel of HealthH
Ten thousand times ten thousand fallI
And physic's monster gulps down allI
-
Bellona's sons a num'rous trainJ
now darken all the dusky plainJ
War their amusement Death their tradeK
And the one sin to be afraidK
They're but another dire diseaseE
The soul from prison to releaseE
And man forlorn as well may beL
A prey to steel as maladyL
Explore he must the mortal roadM
The only diff'rence is the modeM
-
The men in black bring up the rearN
More warm to preach than folks to hearO
Each points to his own fav'rite roadM
As leading to the blest abodeM
Proclaiming loud that all are wrongA
Who don't around his banners throngA
Till all confounded FAITH retiresE
And frighten'd CHARITY expiresE
