1819 New Year's Carrier's Address Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFBBGGHHBBII JC

Believe me dear patrons I have wand'red too farA
Without any compass or planet or starA
My dear native village I scarcely can seeB
So I'll hie to my hive like the tempest tost beeB
Hail home sacred home to my soul ever dearC
Abroad may be wonders but rapture is hereD
My future ambition will never soar higherE
Than the clean brushed hearth and convivial fireE
Here I lounge at my pleasure and bask at my easeF
Full readily sooth'd and desirous to pleaseF
As happy myself as I happy can beB
I wish all the circle as happy as meB
But hark what a clatter the Jolly bells ringingG
The lads and the lasses so jovially singingG
Tis New Years they shout and then haul me alongH
In the mdist of their merry make Juvenile throngH
But I burst from their grasp unforgetful of dutyB
To first pay obeisence to wisdom and BeautyB
My conscience and int'rest unite to command itI
And you my kind PATRONS deserve demand itI
On your patience to trespass no longer I dareJ
So bowing I wish you a Happy New YearC
