When The Irish Flag Went By Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHDID JKLKMNON PQRQSDTD HUVUNDWD

Twas Eight Hour Day and proudlyA
Old Labour led the wayB
The drums were bearing loudlyA
The crowded streets were gayB
But something touched my heart like painC
I could not check the sighD
That rose within my bosom whenE
The Irish Flag went byD
-
Bright flags were raised about itF
And one of them my ownG
And patriots trod beneath itF
But it seemed all aloneG
I thought of ruined IrelandH
While crystals from the skyD
Fell soft like tears by angels shedI
As the Irish Flag went byD
-
I love the dark green standardJ
As Irish patriots doK
It waves above the rebelsL
And I m a rebel tooK
I thought of Ireland s darkest yearsM
Her griefs that follow fastN
For drooping as twere drenched with tearsO
The Irish Flag went pastN
-
And though twas not in ErinP
That my forefathers trodQ
And though my wandering footstepsR
Ne er pressed the dear old sodQ
I felt the wrongs the Irish feelS
Beneath the northern skyD
And felt the rebel in my heartT
When the Irish Flag went byD
-
I tell you men of EnglandH
Who rule the land by mightU
I tell you Irish traitorsV
Who sell the sons of lightU
The tyranny shall fail at lastN
That changeful days are nighD
And you shall dip your red flag yetW
When the Irish Flag goes byD
