Victor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD ECECFGFG HIHIJKLK

And his death came in DecemberA
When our summer was aglowB
Like a song that we rememberA
Like a child s dream long agoB
And it brought Australia to himC
Her sweetest singer deadD
While in silence friends who knew himC
Bowed their heads beside his bedD
-
Angel Death comes softly stealingE
When the watchers eyes are dimC
And when all has failed in healingE
Wounded heart or helpless limbC
With a whisper we may hear notF
Till with Adsum we respondG
And a vision we shall fear notF
Of the Peaceful Land beyondG
-
While Australians in their blindnessH
Fail to realize their lossI
Place the wreath of loving kindnessH
And raise the simple crossI
For he taught us to be brothersJ
And he taught us to be braveK
And we ll banish pride and envyL
With a hand clasp by his graveK
