Day of ending for beginningsA
Ocean hath another inningsA
Ocean hath another scoreB
And the surges sing his winningsA
And the surges shout his winningsA
And the surges shriek his winningsA
All along the sullen shoreB
-
Sing another dirge in wailingC
For another vessel sailingC
With the shadow ships at seaD
Shadow ships for ever sinkingC
Shadow ships whose pumps are clinkingC
And whose thirsty holds are drinkingC
Pledges to EternityD
-
Pray for souls of ghastly soddenE
Corpses floating round untroddenE
Cliffs where nought but sea drift straysF
Souls of dead men in whose facesG
Of humanity no trace isH
Not a mark to show their racesG
Floating round for days and daysF
-
-
-
Ocean's salty tongues are lickingC
Round the faces of the drownedI
And a cruel blade seems stickingC
Through my heart and turning roundI
-
Heaven shall HIS ghastly soddenE
Corpse float round for days and daysF
Shall it dash 'neath cliffs untroddenE
Rocks where nought but sea drift straysF
-
God in heaven hide the floatingC
Falling rising face from meD
God in heaven stay the gloatingC
Mocking singing of the seaD
