The Way Of The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGDGD HIHJKDLD

When fairer faces turn from meA
And gayer friends grow coldB
And I have lost through povertyA
The friendship bought with goldB
When I have served the selfish turnC
Of some all worldly fewD
And Folly s lamps have ceased to burnC
Then I ll come back to youD
When my admirers find I m notE
The rising star they thoughtF
And praise or blame is all forgotE
My early promise broughtF
When brighter rivals lead a hostG
Where once I led a fewD
And kinder times reward their boastG
Then I ll come back to youD
-
You loved me not for what I hadH
Or what I might have beenI
You saw the good but not the badH
Was kind for that betweenJ
I know that you ll forgive againK
That you will judge me trueD
I ll be too tired to explainL
When I come back to youD
