The Wattle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DAEA FGFG HAIA

I saw it in the days gone byA
When the dead girl lay at restB
And the wattle and the native roseC
We placed upon her breastB
-
I saw it in the long agoD
And I've seen strong men dieA
And who to wear the wattleE
Hath better right than IA
-
I've fought it through the world since thenF
And seen the best and worstG
But always in the lands of menF
I held Australia firstG
-
I wrote for her I fought for herH
And when at last I lieA
Then who to wear the wattle hasI
A better right than IA
