The President to KingdomsA
As in the Days of OldB
The King to the RepublicC
As it had been foretoldB
They could not read the spellingD
They would not hear the callE
They would not brook the tellingD
Of Writing on the WallE
I buy my Peace with SlaughterF
With Peace I fashion WarG
I drown the land with waterF
With land I build the shoreG
I walk with Son and DaughterF
Where Ocean rolled beforeG
I build a town where sea wasH
A tower where tempests roarG
-
From bays in distant islandsI
And rocks in lonely seasJ
With unseen Death in silenceK
I smite mine enemiesJ
The great Cathedral crashesL
Where once a city stoodM
I build again on ashesN
And breed on clotted bloodO
-
I link the seas togetherF
And at my sign and willP
The train runs on the ocean bedQ
The great ship climbs the hillP
For pastime I flood desertsR
With water from the rillP
And in my tireless leisure hoursS
I empty lakes and fillP
-
I plumb the seas beneath usT
And fathom skies aboveU
Yet I make Peace for hatredO
And I make War for loveU
I race beneath the rangesN
And sit where Mystery dwellsV
Yet mankind sees no changesN
They ask for miraclesW
-
I own the world and span itsX
Lone lands from Pole to PoleY
I live in other planetsZ
Yet do not know my soulY
The soul that none may fathomA2
Whose secrets none may tellB2
The soul that none may humbleC2
The Soul UnconquerableC2
-
I am the God of AgesN
I am the Unknown GodD2
My life is written pagesN
Wherever man hath trodD2
From bounds of Polar regionsE2
To where the Desert reignsF2
I ve left my myriad legionsE2
On countless vanished plainsF2
-
And I shall reign for everF
On earth while oceans rollC2
In shape of man or womanG2
Through my immortal soulC2
Yet I can love and sufferF
Be angry or be mildH2
And I can bow me down and weepI2
Just like a mortal childH2
-
I conquer Death and LivingD
And Fiends in shape of menJ2
For I rejoice in givingD
Not to receive againJ2
For I am Man and MortalC2
And Mammon s Towers must fallC2
Though Greed draws all his pencils throughK2
The Writing on the WallC2
