The Ships That Won't Go Down Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFAGHG AIJIKDID ILILJGAG

We hear a great commotionA
'Bout the ship that comes to griefB
That founders in mid oceanA
Or is driven on a reefB
Because it's cheap and brittleC
A score of sinners drownD
But we hear but mighty littleC
Of the ships that won't go downD
-
Here's honour to the buildersE
The builders of the pastF
Here's honour to the buildersE
That builded ships to lastF
Here's honour to the captainA
And honour to the crewG
Here's double column headlinesH
To the ships that battle throughG
-
They make a great sensationA
About famous men that failI
That sink a world of chancesJ
In the city morgue or gaolI
Who drink or blow their brains outK
Because of Fortune's frownD
But we hear far too littleI
Of the men who won't go downD
-
The world is full of troubleI
And the world is full of wrongL
But the heart of man is nobleI
And the heart of man is strongL
They say the sea sings dirgesJ
But I would say to youG
That the wild wave's song's a paeanA
For the men that battle throughG
