The Light On The Wreck Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFF GGHHCC IIDDCC

Out there by the rocks at the end of the bankA
In the mouth of the river the Wanderer sankA
She is resting where meet the blue water and greenB
And only her masts and her funnel are seenB
And you see when is fading the sunset s last fleckC
On her foremast a lantern a light on a wreckC
Tis a light on a wreck warning ships to bewareD
Of the drowned iron hull of the Wanderer thereD
And the ships that come in and go out in the nightE
Keep a careful lookout for the Wanderer s lightE
There are rules for the harbour and rules for the waveF
But all captains steer clear of the Wanderer s graveF
-
And the stories of strong lives that ended in wrecksG
Might be likened to lights over derelict decksG
Like the light where in sight of the streets of the townH
In the mouth of the channel the Wanderer went downH
Keep a watch from the desk as they watch from the deckC
Keep a watch from your home for the light on the wreckC
-
But the lights on the wrecks since creation beganI
Have been shining in vain for the vagabond clanI
They will never take warning they will not bewareD
For they hold for their mottoes What matter What careD
And they sail without compass they sail without checkC
Till they steer to their grave neath a light on a wreckC
