The King [ I ] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEF AGHGIJIJ FGFGKLKL

AMONG the sons of EnglishmenA
Full many feel like real tearsB
For though he reigned but scarcely tenC
He bore the burden many yearsD
He lived the dead past doubly downE
He shamed by manliness and truthF
The lies that beat about a crownE
And round a known man in his youthF
-
For he had lived as men have doneA
Since Adam s time to prove them trueG
He proved it in his manhood s primeH
And to the end as strong men doG
And so he died and ever sinceI
And on through years the words shall ringJ
He lived a man he lived a princeI
And died a gentleman and KingJ
-
Unto the friends of his hot youthF
In his wise age he still was trueG
He showed by steadfastness and truthF
What kings as well as men can doG
Till all was manlike or forgotK
Long years ere he found his releaseL
He made them loyal who were notK
He won respect and kept the peaceL
