The Good Old Concertina Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHGHDIDE JHJKLIME

Twas merry when the hut was fullA
Of jolly girls and fellowsB
We danced and sang until we burstC
The concertina s bellowsB
From distant Darling to the seaD
From the Downs to RiverinaE
Has e er a gum in all the westF
Not heard the concertinaE
-
Twas peaceful round the campfire blazeG
The long white branches o er usH
We d play the tunes of bygone daysG
To some good old bush chorusH
Old Erin s harp may sweeter beD
The Scottish pipes blow keenerI
But sing an old bush song for meD
To the good old concertinaE
-
Twas cosy by the hut fire brightJ
When the pint pot passed between usH
We drowned the voice of the stormy nightJ
With the good old concertina sK
Though trouble drifts along the yearsL
And the pangs of care grow keenerI
My heart is gladdened when it hearsM
That good old concertinaE
