The Gentlemen Of Dickens Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFAF AGHHIHHH HJKJHHHH LMHMNOHO HPHPHQRQ HRESTUNU

The gentlemen of DickensA
Were mostly very poorB
And innocent of grammarC
And of parentage obscureD
But rich or poor or thrivingE
Of high or lowly birthF
The gentlemen of DickensA
Were the grandest on the earthF
-
The gentlemen of DickensA
They wore no fancy namesG
Like Reginald or PercyH
Fitzgerald or FitzJamesH
But names for fools to laugh atI
That sound like hob nailed bootsH
Like Newman Noggs and KnubblesH
Toodles and Mr TootsH
-
They d little save their kindnessH
Their honesty and truthJ
They mostly came embarrassedK
And stammering and uncouthJ
But the gentlemen of DickensH
Their women and their girlsH
Could speak their minds if need beH
To ladies and to earlsH
-
But one who wore a titleL
A lesson too could teachM
Lord Feenix Cousin FeenixH
Of wandering legs and speechM
O he might teach a lessonN
A gentleman could giveO
Where he stands by his lovelyH
And accomplished relativeO
-
-
The gentlemen of DickensH
Were gamblers now and thenP
And looked upon the ladiesH
No doubt like other menP
And some of them were drunkardsH
It cannot be deniedQ
But one washed all their sins awayR
When Sidney Carton diedQ
-
-
The gentlemen of DickensH
Are round us here to dayR
For their self sacrificingE
Brave spirits live for ayeS
They cheer my heart and lift itT
They set my blood aglowU
For I was once a gentlemanN
Though it was years agoU
