I met her on the Lachlan SideA
A darling girl I thought herB
And ere I left I swore I'd winC
The free selector's daughterB
-
I milked her father's cows a monthD
I brought the wood and waterB
I mended all the broken fenceE
Before I won the daughterB
-
I listened to her father's yarnsF
I did just what I oughter'B
And what you'll have to do to winC
A free selector's daughterB
-
I broke my pipe and burnt my twistG
And washed my mouth with waterB
I had a shave before I kissedG
The free selector's daughterB
-
Then rising in the frosty mornH
I brought the cows for MaryB
And when I'd milked a bucketfulI
I took it to the dairyB
-
I poured the milk into the dishJ
While Mary held the strainerB
I summoned heart to speak my wishJ
And oh her blush grew plainerB
-
I told her I must leave the placeK
I said that I would miss herB
At first she turned away her faceK
And then she let me kiss herB
-
I put the bucket on the groundL
And in my arms I caught herB
I'd give the world to hold againM
That free selector's daughterB
