The First Dingo Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD CEFECGCG CHCHCCCC

The kangaroo was formed to runA
but not from man aloneB
it ran before the horse or gunA
or native dog was knownB
It ran when drought left waterholesC
three hundred miles betweenD
from great floods and greater firesC
than we have ever seenD
-
The blacks beside the coastal springsC
where mountain sides are steepE
they bred and kept their kangarooF
much tamer than are sheepE
And when the men fought inland tribesC
or when they roamed at largeG
they drove their flocks down to the seaC
and left the gins in chargeG
-
And so alert with startled eyesC
the shepherdess in fearH
perceives with wonder and surpriseC
some foreign beats appearH
She watches creeping through the treesC
and round the blackened logsC
the strangest sight by southern seasC
the stranded Dutchmans's dogsC
