Success Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL

Did you see that man riding pastA
With shoulders bowed with careB
There s failure in his eyes to lastA
And in his heart despairB
He seldom looks to left or rightC
He nods but speaks to noneD
And he s a man who fought the fightC
God knows how hard and wonD
No great review could rouse him nowE
No printed lies could stingF
No kindness smooth his knitted browE
Nor wrong one new line bringF
Through dull dumb days and brooding nightsG
From years of storm and stressH
He s riding down from lonely heightsG
The Mountains of SuccessH
-
He sees across the darkening landI
The graveyards on the coastsJ
He sees the broken columns standI
Like cold and bitter ghostsJ
His world is dead while yet he livesK
Though known in continentsL
His camp is where his country givesK
Its pauper monumentsL
