They have eaten their fill at your tables spreadA
Like friends since the land was wonB
And they rise with a cry of Australia's deadA
With the wheeze of Australia's doneB
Oh the theme is stale but they tell the taleC
How the weak old tale will keepD
Like the crows that croak on a splintered railC
That have gorged on a rotten sheepD
-
I would sing a song in your darkest hourE
In your darkest hour and mineF
For I see the dawn of your wealth and powerE
And I see your bright star shineF
The little men yelp and the little men lieG
And they spread the lies afarH
But we heed them never my Land and IG
For we know how small they areH
-
They know you not in a paltry townI
In the streets where great hopes dieG
Oh heart that never a flood could drownI
And never a drought could dryG
Stand forth from the rim where the red sun dipsJ
Strong son of the land's own sonB
With the grin of grit on your drought chapped lipsJ
And say is your country doneB
-
Stand forth from the land where the sunset diesK
By the desolate lonely shedA
With the smile of faith in your blighted eyesK
And say is your country deadA
They see no future they know no pastL
The parasite cur and clownI
Who talk of ruin and death to lastL
When a man or a land is downI
-
God sends for answer the rain the rainM
And away on the western leaseN
The limitless plain grows green againO
And the fattening stock increaseN
We'll lock your rivers my land my landP
Dig lakes on the furthest runB
While down in the corners where houses standP
They drivel Australia's doneB
-
The parasites dine at your tables spreadA
As my enemies did at mineF
And they croak and gurgle Australia's deadA
While they guzzle Australian wineF
But we heed them never my land my landP
For we know how small they areH
And we see the signs of a future grandP
As we gaze on a rising starH
