My Land And I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IGIGJBJB KAKALILI MNONPBPB AFAFPHPHThey have eaten their fill at your tables spread | A |
Like friends since the land was won | B |
And they rise with a cry of Australia's dead | A |
With the wheeze of Australia's done | B |
Oh the theme is stale but they tell the tale | C |
How the weak old tale will keep | D |
Like the crows that croak on a splintered rail | C |
That have gorged on a rotten sheep | D |
- | |
I would sing a song in your darkest hour | E |
In your darkest hour and mine | F |
For I see the dawn of your wealth and power | E |
And I see your bright star shine | F |
The little men yelp and the little men lie | G |
And they spread the lies afar | H |
But we heed them never my Land and I | G |
For we know how small they are | H |
- | |
They know you not in a paltry town | I |
In the streets where great hopes die | G |
Oh heart that never a flood could drown | I |
And never a drought could dry | G |
Stand forth from the rim where the red sun dips | J |
Strong son of the land's own son | B |
With the grin of grit on your drought chapped lips | J |
And say is your country done | B |
- | |
Stand forth from the land where the sunset dies | K |
By the desolate lonely shed | A |
With the smile of faith in your blighted eyes | K |
And say is your country dead | A |
They see no future they know no past | L |
The parasite cur and clown | I |
Who talk of ruin and death to last | L |
When a man or a land is down | I |
- | |
God sends for answer the rain the rain | M |
And away on the western lease | N |
The limitless plain grows green again | O |
And the fattening stock increase | N |
We'll lock your rivers my land my land | P |
Dig lakes on the furthest run | B |
While down in the corners where houses stand | P |
They drivel Australia's done | B |
- | |
The parasites dine at your tables spread | A |
As my enemies did at mine | F |
And they croak and gurgle Australia's dead | A |
While they guzzle Australian wine | F |
But we heed them never my land my land | P |
For we know how small they are | H |
And we see the signs of a future grand | P |
As we gaze on a rising star | H |
