My Father-in-law And I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED AFAFGDED ABABFDED

MY father in law is a careworn manA
And a silent man is heB
But he summons a smile as well as he canA
Whenever he meets with meB
The sign we make with a silent shakeC
That speaks of the days gone byD
Like men who meet at a funeralE
My father in law and ID
-
My father in law is a sober manA
And a virtuous man I thinkF
But we spare a shilling whenever we canA
And we both drop in for a drinkF
Our pints they fill and we say Ah wellG
With the sound of the world old sighD
Like the drink that comes after a funeralE
My father in law and ID
-
My father in law is a kindly manA
A domestic man is heB
He tries to look cheerful as well as he canA
Whenever he meets with meB
But we stand and think till the second drinkF
In a silence that might implyD
That we d both get over a funeralE
My father in law and ID
