REGION of damper and junk and teaA
Region of pastures wideB
The fairest spots in the world to meA
Are out on the Lachlan SideB
-
CHORUSC
I m off to the Lachlan SideB
Where the bright lagoons are wideB
I long for river and grass and treeA
And someone dearer than all to meA
Far out on the Lachlan SideB
-
My heart was hardened against adviceD
And reason I would not seeA
For by the ocean a paradiseD
The city appeared to meA
-
CHORUSC
I m off to the Lachlan Side etcE
-
Not I for a bumpkin s fate I criedB
I ll not be a country clownF
A life s too slow on the Lachlan SideB
I ll go to the shining townF
-
CHORUSC
I m off to the Lachlan Side etcE
-
I ve lost the battle I strike the flagG
The town may sink in the tideB
A wiser head and a lighter swagG
I take to the Lachlan SideB
-
CHORUSC
I m off to the Lachlan Side etcG
-
When crops of wool on the plains shall growH
Shall flourish in drought or rainI
And when the shearers begin to mowH
I ll come to the town againJ
-
CHORUSC
I m off to the Lachlan Side etcG
-
But now I go to a kinder fateK
If her love still conquers prideB
Her heart was true when she sobbed I ll waitK
For you on the Lachlan SideB
-
CHORUSC
I m off to the Lachlan SideB
Where the bright lagoons are wideB
I long for river and grass and treeA
And someone dearer than all to meA
Far out on the Lachlan SideB
