Break O- Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDCECE FGFGFDFD HAHAIEJE KEKECDCD CFCF

You love me you say and I think you doA
But I know so many who don tB
And how can I say I ll be true to youA
When I know very well that I won tB
I have journeyed long and my goal is farC
I love but I cannot bideD
For as sure as rises the morning starC
With the break of day I ll rideD
I was doomed to ruin or doomed to marC
The home wherever I stayE
But I ll think of you as the morning starC
And they call me Break o DayE
-
They well might have named me the Fall o NightF
For drear is the track I markG
But I love fair girls and I love the lightF
For I and my tribe were darkG
You may love me dear for a day and nightF
You may cast your life asideD
But as sure as the morning star shines brightF
With the break of day I ll rideD
-
There was never a lover so proud and kindH
There was never a friend so trueA
But the song of my life I have left behindH
In the heart of a girl like youA
There was never so deep or cruel a wrongI
In the land that is far awayE
There was never so bitter a broken heartJ
That rode at the break of dayE
-
God bless you dear with your red gold hairK
And your pitying eyes of greyE
Oh my heart forbids that a star so fairK
Should be marred by the Break o DayE
Live on my girl as the girl you areC
Be a good and a true man s brideD
For as sure as beckons the evening starC
With the fall o night I ll rideD
-
I was born to ruin or born to marC
The home wherever I lightF
Oh I wish that you were the Evening StarC
And that I were the Fall o NightF
