'Where are you going with your horse and bikeA
And the townsfolk still at restB
Where are you going with your swag and packC
And the night still in the WestB
Your clothes are worn and your cheques are goneD
But your eyes are free from careE
We re bushmen down for a spree in townF
And we re bound for the Lord knows whereE
Old chap we re bound for the Lord knows whereE
-
There are great dark scrubs in the Lord knows whereE
Where they fight it out aloneG
There are wide wide plains in the Lord knows whereE
Where a man s soul is his ownG
There is healthy work there is healthy restB
There is peace from self torture thereE
And the glorious freedom from paltrinessH
And they re bound for the Lord knows whereE
-
Now where are you going in your Sunday suitI
And a bag for your second bestB
Now where are you going with your chest of toolsH
And the old togs in the chestB
With your six clean shirts and a pound of weedJ
And enough for a third class fareE
Oh I ll be afloat by the very next boatK
And I m bound for the Lord knows whereE
Old chap I m bound for the Lord knows whereE
-
There are wide wide seas to the Lord knows whereE
Where a man might have a spellL
The things turn up in the Lord knows where thatM
We waited for too wellL
There s a stranger land in the Lord knows whereE
And a show for the stranger thereE
There is war and quake more work to makeN
And he s bound for the Lord knows whereE
-
Now where are you going with your Gladstone bagO
With your shirt case and valiseH
Now where are you going with your cap and shoesH
And your looks of joyful peaceH
Now where are you going with your money beltsH
And your drafts on the first bank thereE
We have made a hit or we ve made a bitP
And we re bound for the Lord knows whereE
Old chap we re bound for the Lord knows whereE
-
There are sinful ports in the Lord knows whereE
There are marvellous sights to seeH
There are high old games in the Lord knows whereE
That were known to you and meH
There is love and music and life and light fromQ
The Heads to Lester SquareE
There is more than space for their high young heartsH
There is safety or danger thereE
And they ll come back wild or they ll come back tamedR
When they ve been to the Lord knows whereE
-
Now where am I going with my whisky flaskS
And with little else besideT
Now where am I going with my second shirtU
To wear while the first is driedT
I have marred my name and I ve lost my fameV
But my hope s in good repairE
There are lies about there are warrants outW
And I m bound for the Lord knows whereE
Old Chap and I m bound for the Lord knows whereE
-
There s a rise and fall of the sloping decksH
That is good for a soul in painX
There s the drowsy rest on the sunlight seaH
Till your strength comes back againY
Oh the wild mad spirit is hypnotizedZ
And nerves are tranquil thereE
And the past is hushed in forgetfulnessH
On the road to the Lord knows whereE
