Andy's Return Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCEFGFGHIHI JKJKKDKE LKLKKDKE CKCKCMCMWith pannikins all rusty | A |
And billy burnt and black | B |
And clothes all torn and dusty | A |
That scarcely hide his back | B |
With sun cracked saddle leather | C |
And knotted greenhide rein | D |
And face burnt brown with weather | C |
Our Andy s home again | E |
His unkempt hair is faded | F |
With sleeping in the wet | G |
He s looking old and jaded | F |
But he is hearty yet | G |
With eyes sunk in their sockets | H |
But merry as of yore | I |
With big cheques in his pockets | H |
Our Andy s home once more | I |
- | |
Old Uncle s bright and cheerful | J |
He wears a smiling face | K |
And Aunty s never tearful | J |
Now Andy s round the place | K |
Old Blucher barks for gladness | K |
He broke his rusty chain | D |
And leapt in joyous madness | K |
When Andy came again | E |
- | |
With tales of flood and famine | L |
On distant northern tracks | K |
And shady yarns baal gammon | L |
Of dealings with the blacks | K |
From where the skies hang lazy | K |
On many a northern plain | D |
From regions dim and hazy | K |
Our Andy s home again | E |
- | |
His toil is nearly over | C |
He ll soon enjoy his gains | K |
Not long he ll be a drover | C |
And cross the lonely plains | K |
We ll happy be for ever | C |
When he ll no longer roam | M |
But by some deep cool river | C |
Will make us all a home | M |
