1891 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCCBDEB AABFFFBDEB GGBFFFBDEB

Now Yankee inventors can beat a retreatA
And German professors may take a back seatA
For their colours we're going to lowerB
They've invented a wonderful plough in the WestC
The scientists call it the latest and bestC
It ploughs sows and reaps without taking a restC
And they drive it by kangaroo powerB
Sing heyD
Sing hoE
Then it's bully for kangaroo powerB
-
O wondrous the changes our children shall meetA
For soon we may travel the principal streetA
In something far short of an hourB
The traffic shall flow without stoppage or jambsF
And sharp little screeches and naughty big damnsF
For soon all the hansoms and 'busses and tramsF
Shall travel by kangaroo powerB
Sing heyD
Sing hoE
Then it's bully for kangaroo powerB
-
Advance Young Australia thy banner unfurledG
And jump through the years and astonish the worldG
Thou art of all nations the flowerB
And Bismarck with envy shall grind his old stumpsF
And Yankee inventors shall sit in the dumpsF
To see young Australia advancing by jumpsF
When driven by kangaroo powerB
Sing heyD
Sing hoE
Then it's bully for kangaroo powerB
