Sonnet To My Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACCADEEDFF

And canst thou Mother for a moment thinkA
That we thy children when old age shall shedB
Its blanching honours on thy weary headB
Could from our best of duties ever shrinkA
Sooner the sun from his high sphere should sinkA
Than we ungrateful leave thee in that dayC
To pine in solitude thy life awayC
Or shun thee tottering on the grave's cold brinkA
Banish the thought where'er our steps may roamD
O'er smiling plains or wastes without a treeE
Still will fond memory point our hearts to theeE
And paint the pleasures of thy peaceful homeD
While duty bids us all thy griefs assuageF
And smooth the pillow of thy sinking ageF
