Severest of those orders which belong | G |
Distinct and separate to Delphic song | G |
Why shun the sonnet's undulating maze | F |
And why its name boast of Petrarchian days | F |
Assume its rules disown'd whom from the throng | G |
The muse selects their ear the charm obeys | F |
Of its full harmony they fear to wrong | G |
The sonnet by adorning with a name | H |
Of that distinguish'd import lays though sweet | A |
Yet not in magic texture taught to meet | A |
Of that so varied and peculiar frame | H |
O think to vindicate its genuine praise | F |
