Sonnet Addressed To H. K. White, On His Poems Lately Published, By G. L. C. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACCADEEDFG

Henry I greet thine entrance into lifeA
Sure presage that the myrmidons of fateB
The fool's unmeaning laugh the critic's hateB
Will dire assail thee and the envious strifeA
Of bookish schoolmen beings over rifeA
Whose pia mater studious is fill'dC
With unconnected matter half distill'dC
From letter'd page shall bare for thee the knifeA
Beneath whose edge the poet ofttimes sinksD
But fear not for thy modest work containsE
The germ of worth thy wild poetic strainsE
How sweet to him untutor'd bard who thinksD
Thy verse has power to please as soft it flowsF
Through the smooth murmurs of the frequent closeG
