Music Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AB CDCE FGHG IJKJ ILIL MNMN OPOC IQIQ RSTS UVUV| Written between the ages of fourteen and fifteen | A |
| with a few subsequent verbal alterations | B |
| - | |
| - | |
| Music all powerful o'er the human mind | C |
| Can still each mental storm each tumult calm | D |
| Soothe anxious care on sleepless couch reclined | C |
| And e'en fierce Anger's furious rage disarm | E |
| - | |
| At her command the various passions lie | F |
| She stirs to battle or she lulls to peace | G |
| Melts the charm'd soul to thrilling ecstasy | H |
| And bids the jarring world's harsh clangour cease | G |
| - | |
| Her martial sounds can fainting troops inspire | I |
| With strength unwonted and enthusiasm raise | J |
| Infuse new ardour and with youthful fire | K |
| Urge on the warrior gray with length of days | J |
| - | |
| Far better she when with her soothing lyre | I |
| She charms the falchion from the savage grasp | L |
| And melting into pity vengeful ire | I |
| Looses the bloody breastplate's iron clasp | L |
| - | |
| With her in pensive mood I long to roam | M |
| At midnight's hour or evening's calm decline | N |
| And thoughtful o'er the falling streamlet's foam | M |
| In calm seclusion's hermit walks recline | N |
| - | |
| Whilst mellow sounds from distant copse arise | O |
| Of softest flute or reeds harmonic join'd | P |
| With rapture thrill'd each worldly passion dies | O |
| And pleased attention claims the passive mind | C |
| - | |
| Soft through the dell the dying strains retire | I |
| Then burst majestic in the varied swell | Q |
| Now breathe melodious as the Grecian lyre | I |
| Or on the ear in sinking cadence dwell | Q |
| - | |
| Romantic sounds such is the bliss ye give | R |
| That heaven's bright scenes seem bursting on the soul | S |
| With joy I'd yield each sensual wish to live | T |
| For ever 'neath your undefiled control | S |
| - | |
| Oh surely melody from heaven was sent | U |
| To cheer the soul when tired with human strife | V |
| To soothe the wayward heart by sorrow rent | U |
| And soften down the rugged road of life | V |
