Inscription For A Monument To The Memory Of Cowper Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOAPQRS TUVW

Reader if with no vulgar sympathyA
Thou view'st the wreck of genius and of worthB
Stay thou thy footsteps near this hallow'd spotC
Here Cowper rests Although renown have madeD
His name familiar to thine ear this stoneE
May tell thee that his virtues were aboveF
The common portion that the voice now hush'dG
In death was once serenely querulousH
With pity's tones and in the ear of woeI
Spake music Now forgetful at thy feetJ
His tired head presses on its last long restK
Still tenant of the tomb and on the cheekL
Once warm with animation's lambent flushM
Sits the pale image of unmark'd decayN
Yet mourn not He had chosen the better partO
And these sad garments of MortalityA
Put off we trust that to a happier landP
He went a light and gladsome passengerQ
Sigh'st thou for honours reader Call to mindR
That glory's voice is impotent to pierceS
The silence of the tomb but virtue bloomsT
Even on the wreck of life and mounts the skiesU
So gird thy loins with lowliness and walkV
With Cowper on the pilgrimage of ChristW
