A Ballad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFH IJKJ LMNM OPKP

Be hush'd be hush'd ye bitter windsA
Ye pelting rains a little restB
Lie still lie still ye busy thoughtsC
That wring with grief my aching breastB
-
Oh cruel was my faithless loveD
To triumph o'er an artless maidE
Oh cruel was my faithless loveD
To leave the breast by him betray'dE
-
When exiled from my native homeF
He should have wiped the bitter tearG
Nor left me faint and lone to roamF
A heart sick weary wanderer hereH
-
My child moans sadly in my armsI
The winds they will not let it sleepJ
Ah little knows the hapless babeK
What makes its wretched mother weepJ
-
Now lie thee still my infant dearL
I cannot bear thy sobs to seeM
Harsh is thy father little oneN
And never will he shelter theeM
-
Oh that I were but in my graveO
And winds were piping o'er me loudP
And thou my poor my orphan babeK
Wert nestling in thy mother's shroudP
