The Presentation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCB DEDEFFG HIJIKKI

When in the womb of Time our souls' own sonA
Dear Love lay sleeping till his natal hourB
Long months I knew not that sweet life begunA
Too dimly treasuring thy touch of powerB
And wandering all those daysC
By far off waysC
Forgot immortal seed must have immortal flowerB
-
Only beloved since my beloved thou artD
I do remember now that memory's vainE
How twice or thrice beneath my beating heartD
Life quickened suddenly with proudest painE
Then dreamed I Love's increaseF
Yet held my peaceF
Till I might render thee thy own great gift againG
-
For as with bodies so with souls it isH
The greater gives the lesser doth conceiveI
That thou hast fathered Love I tell thee thisJ
And by my pangs beseech thee to believeI
Look on his hope divineK
Thy hope and mineK
Pity his outstretched hands tenderly him receiveI
