The Adventurers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EFGG HHII JKLL MMNN OOPP QQII

Over the downs in sunlight clearA
Forth we went in the spring of the yearA
Plunder of April's gold we soughtB
Little of April's anger thoughtB
-
Caught in a copse without defenceC
Low we crouched to the rain squall denseC
Sure if misery man can vexD
There it beat on our bended necksD
-
Yet when again we wander onE
Suddenly all that gloom is goneF
Under and over through the woodG
Life is astir and life is goodG
-
Violets purple violets whiteH
Delicate windflowers dancing lightH
Primrose mercury moscatelI
Shimmer in diamonds round the dellI
-
Squirrel is climbing swift and litheJ
Chiff chaff whetting his airy scytheK
Woodpecker whirrs his rattling rapL
Ringdove flies with a sudden clapL
-
Rook is summoning rook to buildM
Dunnock his beak with moss has filledM
Robin is bowing in coat tails brownN
Tomtit chattering upside downN
-
Well is it seen that every oneO
Laughs at the rain and loves the sunO
We too laughed with the wildwood crewP
Laughed till the sky once more was blueP
-
Homeward over the downs we wentQ
Soaked to the heart with sweet contentQ
April's anger is swift to fallI
April's wonder is worth it allI
