Songs Of The Fleet - The Middle Watch Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD AAAAAA EFEF GHGH AAAAAA

In a blue dusk the ship asternA
Uplifts her slender sparsB
With golden lights that seem to burnA
Among the silver starsB
Like fleets along a cloudy shoreC
The constellations creepD
Like planets on the ocean floorC
Our silent course we keepD
-
And over the endless plainA
Out of the night forlornA
Rises a faint refrainA
A song of the day to be bornA
Watch oh watch till ye find againA
Life and the land of mornA
-
From a dim West to a dark EastE
Our lines unwavering headF
As if their motion long had ceasedE
And Time itself were deadF
-
Vainly we watch the deep belowG
Vainly the void aboveH
They died a thousand years agoG
Life and the land we loveH
-
But over the endless plainA
Out of the night forlornA
Rises a faint refrainA
A song of the day to be bornA
Watch oh watch till ye find againA
Life and the land of mornA
