Minora Sidera Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN

The Dictionary Of National BiographyA
-
Sitting at times over a hearth that burnsB
With dull domestic glowC
My thought leaving the book gratefully turnsB
To you who planned it soC
-
Not of the great only you deigned to tellD
The stars by which we steerE
But lights out of the night that flashed and fellD
Tonight again are hereF
-
Such as were those dogs of an elder dayG
Who sacked the golden portsH
And those later who dared grapple their preyG
Beneath the harbour fortsH
-
Some with flag at the fore sweeping the worldI
To find an equal fightJ
And some who joined war to their trade and hurledI
Ships of the line in flightJ
-
Whether their fame centuries long should ringK
They cared not over muchL
But cared greatly to serve God and the kingK
And keep the Nelson touchL
-
And fought to build Britain above the tideM
Of wars and windy fateN
And passed content leaving to us the prideM
Of lives obscurely greatN
