Pleasant Are Thy Courts Above Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCCC DDEEFFGG BBCCHHII JJCCKKLL

Pleasant are Thy courts aboveA
In the land of light and loveA
Pleasant are Thy courts belowB
In this land of sin and woeB
O my spirit longs and faintsC
For the converse of Thy saintsC
For the brightness of Thy faceC
For Thy fullness God of graceC
-
Happy birds that sing and flyD
Round Thy altars O most HighD
Happier souls that find a restE
In a heavenly Father s breastE
Like the wandering dove that foundF
No repose on earth aroundF
They can to their ark repairG
And enjoy it ever thereG
-
Happy souls their praises flowB
Even in this vale of woeB
Waters in the desert riseC
Manna feeds them from the skiesC
On they go from strength to strengthH
Till they reach Thy throne at lengthH
At Thy feet adoring fallI
Who hast led them safe through allI
-
Lord be mine this prize to winJ
Guide me through a world of sinJ
Keep me by Thy saving graceC
Give me at Thy side a placeC
Sun and shield alike Thou artK
Guide and guard my erring heartK
Grace and glory flow from TheeL
Shower O shower them Lord on meL
