Long Did I Toil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDD EAEADD FGFGFF HIHIFF

Long did I toil and knew no earthly restA
Far did I rove and found no certain homeB
At last I sought them in His sheltering breastA
Who opes His arms and bids the weary comeC
With Him I found a home a rest divineD
And since then I am His and He is mineD
-
The good I have is from His stores suppliedE
The ill is only what He deems the bestA
He for my Friend I m rich with naught besideE
And poor without Him though of all possessedA
Changes may come I take or I resignD
Content while I am His while He is mineD
-
Whate er may change in Him no change is seenF
A glorious Sun that wanes not nor declinesG
Above the clouds and storms He walks sereneF
And on His people s inward darkness shinesG
All may depart I fret not nor repineF
While I my Savior s am while He is mineF
-
While here alas I know but half His loveH
But half discern Him and but half adoreI
But when I meet Him in the realms aboveH
I hope to love Him better praise Him moreI
And feel and tell amid the choir divineF
How fully I am His and He is mineF
