We Are Coming, Sister Mary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHGH GIJIKKFK GLMLGKAK

On a stormy night in winterA
When the winds blew cold and wetB
I heard some strains of musicC
That I never can forgetB
I was sleeping in the cabinD
Where liv'd Mary fair and youngE
When a light shone in the windowF
And a band of singers sungE
-
We are coming sister MaryG
We are coming bye and byeH
Be ready sister MaryG
For the time is drawing nighH
-
I tried to tell my MaryG
But my tongue would not obeyI
When the song so strange had endedJ
And the singers flown awayI
As I watch'd I heard a rustlingK
Like the rustling of a wingK
And beside my Mary's pillowF
Very soon I heard them singK
-
Then again I called my MaryG
But my sorrow was completeL
For I found her heart of kindnessM
Had forever ceas'd to beatL
And I still am very lonelyG
From summer round to springK
And I oft in midnight slumberA
Think I hear the same ones singK
