Sleeping For The Flag Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAC DEAE AFAFACAC AGAGACAC

When our boys come home in triumph brotherA
With the laurels they shall gainB
When we go to give them welcome brotherA
We shall look for you in vainB
We shall wait for your returning brotherA
Though we know it cannot beC
For your comrades left you sleeping brotherA
Underneath a southern treeC
-
Sleeping to wakenD
In this weary world no moreE
Sleeping for your true lov'd country brotherA
Sleeping for the flag you boreE
-
You were the first on duty brotherA
When to arms your leader criedF
You have left the ranks forever brotherA
You have laid your armies asideF
From the awful scenes of battle brotherA
You were set forever freeC
When your comrades left you sleeping brotherA
Underneath that southern treeC
-
You have cross'd the clouded river brotherA
To the mansions of the bestG
When the wicked cease from troubling brotherA
And the weary are at restG
Surely we would not recall you brotherA
But the tears flow fast and freeC
When we think of you sleeping brotherA
Underneath a southern treeC
