Shadows On The Floor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFF GGHHIIBB JJKKLLMM

Saturday night Saturday nightA
The hope that lingered has taken to flightA
From morning till evening the weary week throughB
In vain has he battled for something to doB
Poor man emptyhanded how can he returnC
To those whose fate hangs on the pence he may earnC
How can he reply to his questioner sweetD
Did Papa bring Papa's girl somethin' to eatD
-
Out of employ out of employE
Distress in the cottage where once there was joyE
How frightful the shadows that fall on the floorF
When Want and Starvation appear at the doorF
-
Wasting away Wasting awayG
His poor wife grows paler each sorrowful dayG
Yet suffers in silence and never complainsH
Reserving for others the crust that remainsH
His fearful forebodings he seeks to disguiseI
But now the child's prattle brings tears to his eyesI
If Ma doze to Heaven den I mus' do tooB
But Pa I'll frow down bread and butter for youB
-
Struggling for life Struggling for lifeJ
In spite of his courage bourne down in the strifeJ
Had not he the wife and the baby to saveK
How willingly would be he down in the graveK
Reflections more later creep into his mindL
The promise is false If ye seek ye shall findL
What was it his dear little innocent saidM
Does Dod fordits us when He takes daily breadM
