Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHF IFGHF JKLKMFGHF NKOKPFGHF QRSRFFGHF

Once again have I roamed thro' the old fashioned houseA
Where my grandfather spent his ninety yearsB
There are strangers in charge and the change they have wroughtC
Oh it saddens me even to tearsD
Dear old clock when they found you were speechless from griefE
Then they went and swapped you off case and allF
For that vain stuck up thingG
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tickH
For that vain stuck up thing on the wallF
-
Grandfather sleeps in his graveI
Strange steps resound in the hallF
And there's that vain stuck up thingG
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tickH
There's that vain stuck up thing on the wallF
-
While we talked of the old clock they all ran it downJ
Tho' they claimed that it couldn't be made to runK
It was useless they said it was quite out of styleL
Built no doubt just about the year OneK
And the words echoed round with a faint mocking soundM
As if some one gave assent to it allF
'Twas that vain stuck up thingG
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tickH
'Twas that vain stuck up thing on the wallF
-
From the clock peddler's cart in the junk shop it wentN
Where its cog wheels were sundered one be oneK
And the brass founder joked as they writhed in the flamesO
Melt'em up says he then they will runK
There is grief in my heart there are tears in my eyesP
Yet indignantly the sight I recallF
Of that vain stuck up thingG
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tickH
For that vain stuck up thing on the wallF
-
An extremely hard case said the junk dealer's wifeQ
As she carried it for kindling wood and sighedR
That mahogany case with its quaint figured faceS
Which so long was my grandfather's prideR
There is hope for the small there's a change for us allF
For the mighty ones of Time they must fallF
Says that vain stuck up thingG
tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tickH
Says that vain stuck up thing on the wallF
