No Letters From Home! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCB DBCB EFEFCGCB CBCBHBHB AIAIJBJB JBJB

A stranger lies ill in a distant cityA
With no letters from homeB
The glances that meet him in lieu of pityA
Are querring Why does he roamB
Oh heed my request says he else 'twere betterC
I slept in this gold dusted loamB
Dismiss the physician and bring a letterC
A flock of kind letters from homeB
-
Oh heed my request says he else 'twer better ID
I slept in this gold dusted loamB
Dismiss the physician and bring a letterC
A flock of kind letters from homeB
-
Like messenger doves from across the mountainsE
Cream tinted and golden and whiteF
Like the clouds that have sipp'd at the Eastern fountainsE
For thirsty land to take flightF
So come the dear missives but ah the strangerC
Receives none to lighten his gloomG
In this time of sickness this hour of dangerC
Not ever one letter from homeB
-
He moans in his slumber Why did I everC
So far westwardly roamB
Oh must I lie down must I sleep foreverC
With no loving letters from homeB
My bones you may bury where winds are liftingH
Pacific's broad billows in foamB
Or there on Lone Mountain where sands are driftingH
But first bring a letter from homeB
-
From the 'Golden' up to the portals pearlyA
He murmurs Oh can it be farI
On the sunset domain in the morn how earlyA
Will glimmer the Orient StarI
What light is the melting my shade like fettersJ
What birds are those circling the domeB
Those messenger doves are my long sought lettersJ
My flock of kind letters from homeB
-
They heed my request says he best of debtorsJ
Their favors are whitening the domeB
Sweet messenger doves are my long sought lettersJ
My flock of kind letters from homeB
