Nellie Lost And Found Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGF HIHIJKJK LMLMNBNB OPOPQRQR SRQR

Ten o'clock the rain begins to fallA
And Nellie still from homeB
Vainly now her loving name we callA
Oh whither does she roamB
Can it be she wanders from the streetC
Thro' the wood to find her lonely wayD
Bless the child I fear her little feetC
Have carried her astrayD
-
Wake the boys to search for NellieE
Stay not for the dawnF
Who shall sleep when from the mother's foldG
One little lamb is goneF
-
Eleven of o'clock the little brothers waitH
Still hoping her returnI
Peeping through the lattice of the gateH
Their darling to discernI
Weary now they turn them to the doorJ
While their tears for lips that now are dumbK
Ask the question often asked beforeJ
Oh mother will she comeK
-
Twelve o'clock and in the forest wildL
What terrors rule the hourM
Who can tell what foe surround the childL
Or shield her from their powerM
Storm face and torrents to be cross'dN
Beasts of prey that in the darkness roamB
Would to God that only I were lostN
And Nellie safe at homeB
-
One o'clock methinks I hear a voiceO
With tidings in its toneP
Does it bid this trembling heart rejoiceO
Or sorrow makes it knownP
Still I heard that midnight echo stirr'dQ
Surely too it bears a joyful soundR
Praise the Lord a mother's pray'r is heardQ
The darling one is foundR
-
Through the wood the midnight echoesS
Bear a joyful soundR
Praise the Lord a mother's pray'r is heardQ
The darling one is foundR
