Brave Boys Are They! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIH JKLKMNON PQRQSTUT VUBUWXYX

Heavily falls the rainA
Wild are the breezes tonightB
But 'neath the roof the hours as they flyC
Are happy and calm and brightB
Gathering round our firesideD
Tho' it be summer timeE
We sit and talk of brothers abroadF
Forgetting the midnight chimeE
-
Brave boys are theyG
Gone at their country's callH
And yet and yet we cannot forgetI
That many brave boys must fallH
-
Under the homestead roofJ
Nestled so cozy and warmK
While soldiers sleep with little or naughtL
To shelter them from the stormK
Resting on grassy couchesM
Pillow'd on hillocks dampN
Of martial fare how little we knowO
Till brothers are in the campN
-
Thinking no less of themP
Loving our country the moreQ
We sent them forth to fight for the flagR
Their fathers before them boreQ
Though the great tear drops startedS
This was our parting trustT
God bless you boys we'll welcome you homeU
When rebels are in the dustT
-
May the bright wings of loveV
Guard them wherever they roamU
The time has come when brothers must fightB
And sisters must pray at homeU
Oh The dread field of battleW
Soon to be strewn with gravesX
If brothers fall then bury them whereY
Our banner in triumph wavesX
