To Melpomene. Iv-3 (from The Odes Of Horace) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHIJKLGLIIGI MDMD

Oh him whom at birth you with favor regardedA
Melpomene never an Isthmian gameB
Shall render renowned though he's skilled as a boxerC
Nor shall a swift horse lead him onward to fameB
Though a victor he rides in a chariot AchaianD
Not him shall the fortune of war ever showE
In the Capitol wearing the garland of laurelF
Because the proud threatenings of kings he laid lowE
But every stream flowing over the countryG
Fertile Tibur around and so every groveH
With its thick growing leaves shall ennoble the poetI
In olian song he ennobled shall proveJ
The offspring of Rome that is Queen among citiesK
Me have deemed as a bard to be worthy a placeL
In her glorious choir and less and less keenlyG
Already the sharp bite of Envy I traceL
Oh Pieris oh Muse who the sweet tone controllestI
Of the golden tongued lyre able too to endowI
The dumb fishes as well if it happen to please theeG
With the notes of the swan 'tis from thee it comes nowI
That I by the finger of those who are passingM
The Lord of our own Roman lyre am shownD
For all inspiration for all that is pleasingM
If it happen to please thou hast made it my ownD
