The Shrieking Woman At Marblehead Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJKJ

'Twas a Spanish galleon sailed the seasA
Two centuries since have rolledB
Laden with silver and gems to pleaseA
Gay dames and gallants boldB
-
But villainous pirates seized the shipC
As homeward she was boundD
Ah she has made her last long tripC
For they ran her soon agroundD
-
From Oakum Bay into MarbleheadE
They brought one lady fairF
Her husband alas and his crew are deadE
And her they will not spareF
-
Loud loud she shrieked in the pirates' armsG
Oh save me Jesu saveH
Cruel echo mocked at her wild alarmsG
As they dug her a nameless graveH
-
Yet once a year when the night has comeI
That saw her dreadful deathJ
You can hear her above the ocean's boomK
Shriek out with her dying breathJ
