| needing nor words nor other prod | B |
| To point his duty he was glad | A |
| to tread the path his fathers trod | B |
| Week days he worked in wood and field | C |
| with homely joys he decked his life | D |
| The sword of hate he would not wield | C |
| nor take a part in cankering strife | D |
| On Sunday in the little choir | E |
| he sang of Peace and brotherly love | F |
| And as his thoughts soared higher and higher | E |
| they reached unmeasured heights above | F |

| A cry for Freedom rent the Land | G |
| Our Country calls come come 'tis War | H |
| Together let us firmly stand | G |
| he answered though his heart beat sore | H |
| At leaving home and kin and one | I |
| in whose fond eyes too late he read | J |
| That life for her had but begun | I |
| with the farewells he sadly said | J |

| A half a century has passed | K |
| and more since all those myriads fell | L |
| For he was one of those who cast | K |
| sweet life into a Battle's hell | L |
| The village has become a town | M |
| brick buildings the old graveyard gird | N |
| Of him who fought not for renown | M |
| no one now hears a spoken word | N |
| But on the Monument his name | O |
| in gold is lettered with the rest | P |
| Without a sordid thought of fame | O |
| he to his Country gave his best | P |

| Strew flowers then Memorial Day | Q |
| for him for all who for us fought | R |
| With speech and music honors pay | Q |
| teach what our brave defenders taught | R |
| And now our sons are setting out | S |
| the call for Right rings to the sky | T |
| Our Country Freedom hear them shout | S |
| re echoing their Grandsires' cry | T |
