The Poet's Forge Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCCB DEFGFE GDHHHD HFIIIF IBJJJB

He lies on his back the idling smithA
A lazy dreaming fellow is heB
The sky is blue or the sky is grayC
He lies on his back the livelong dayC
Not a tool in sight say what they mayC
A curious sort of smith is heB
-
The powers of the air are in league with himD
The country around believes it wellE
The wondering folk draw spying nearF
Never sight nor sound do they see or hearG
No wonder they feel a little fearF
When is it his work is done so wellE
-
Never sight nor sound to see or hearG
The powers of the air are in league with himD
High over his head his metals swingH
Fine gold and silver to shame the kingH
We might distinguish their glitteringH
If once we could get in league with himD
-
High over his head his metals swingH
He hammers them idly year by yearF
Hammers and chuckles a low refrainI
A bench and a book are a ball and a chainI
The adze is a better tool than the planeI
What's the odds between now and next yearF
-
Hammers and chuckles his low refrainI
A lazy dreaming fellow is heB
When sudden some day his bells peal outJ
And men at the sound for gladness shoutJ
He laughs and asks what it's all aboutJ
Oh a curious sort of smith is heB
