The Fountain Leaps As If Its Nearest Goal Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEEDDE

The fountain leaps as if its nearest goalA
Were sky and shines as if its life were lightB
No crystal prism flashes on our sightB
Such radiant splendor of the rainbow's wholeA
Of color Who would dream the fountain stoleA
Its tints and if the sun no more were brightB
Would instant fade to its own pallid whiteB
Who dream that never higher than the doleA
Of its own source its stream may riseC
Thus weD
See often hearts of men that by love's glowE
Are sudden lighted lifted till they showE
All semblances of true nobilityD
The passion spent they tire of purityD
And sink again to their own levels lowE
