O the years I lost before I knew youA
LoveB
O the hills I climbed and came not to youA
LoveB
Ah who shall render unto us to makeC
Us gladD
The things which for and of each other's sakeC
We might have hadD
-
If you and I had sat and played togetherE
LoveB
Two speechless babes in the summer weatherE
LoveB
By one sweet brook which though it dried up longF
AgoG
Still makes for me today a sweeter songF
Than all I knowG
-
If hand in hand through the mysterious gatewayH
LoveB
Of womanhood we had first looked and straightwayH
LoveB
Had whispered to each other softly ereI
It yetJ
Was dawn what now in noonday heat and fearK
We both forgetJ
-
If all of this had given its completenessL
LoveB
To every hour would it be added sweetnessL
LoveB
Or illM
With thee One wish could I more sweetly tellN
More swift fulfillM
-
Ah vainly thus I sit and dream and ponderE
LoveB
Losing the precious present while I wonderE
LoveB
About the days in which you grew and cameO
To beP
So beautiful and did not know the nameO
Or sight of meP
-
But all lost things are in the angel's keepingQ
LoveB
No past is dead for us but only sleepingQ
LoveB
The years of heaven will all earth's little painR
Make goodS
Together there we can begin againT
In babyhoodS
